I have to disagree. I think Sundin would perform much better than Messier did when he was with us. Last year, for instance, the guy scored over 70 points on an absolutely dreadful Leafs team. If the Canucks do as expected and sign Demitra, I could see Sundin scoring at least 70 points per year over the two year contract. Certainly not an abject failure in the Messier mould.

Whether he is worth $10 million a year for two years is another question entirely, and I would be inclined to think he is not. However, the Canucks have a significant amount of cap space and not a lot out there to fill it out with, as it stands. Signing on Sundin for a short period seems reasonable enough as a short-term band-aid for our woeful offence.

What I don’t like is that this is a short term fix. Why get some player at the twilight of his career on a team that requires several new forwards?

Sundin is not a cure-all for this team, for the money they are paying him that is what would be expected.

I have a better idea than making Sundin the highest paid player in NHL for two years- make Luongo the highest paid player in the league.

If Sundin is signed, good luck getting Luongo back here for under $11 million a season.
